What I think of the LDS Church

"It is disturbing that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is being singled out for speaking up as part of its democratic right in a free election.

Members of the Church in California and millions of others from every faith, ethnicity and political affiliation who voted for Proposition 8 exercised the most sacrosanct and individual rights in the United States — that of free expression and voting.

While those who disagree with our position on Proposition 8 have the right to make their feelings known, it is wrong to target the Church and its sacred places of worship for being part of the democratic process.

Once again, we call on those involved in the debate over same-sex marriage to act in a spirit of mutual respect and civility towards each other. No one on either side of the question should be vilified, harassed or subject to erroneous information."

Above is the statement that the Church issued on Nov. 7. See it here.

What raises my ire the most is that this church has the gall to ask people to "act in a spirit of mutual respect" in their response to Prop 8 passing. Where is the respect for people that want to live their lives without the government legislating what two people who love each other can and can not have.

Also, what of these claims that the vote was an expression of the democratic process. Are not the protests a protected expression as well?

This from a religion that is younger than our country and founded by a man who claimed to have divinely interpreted inscriptions on plates he "found" in the ground by placing them in a hat and sticking his face in it. Not to mention the fact he was afraid of getting run out of Pennsylvania for defrauding farmers by claiming to know where buried treasure was on their land. This is a religion that was started out of greed and self preservation.

The First Presidency of this sham religion better be thankful of the first amendment to our Constitution which allows the teaching of a, what I believe to be nothing more than a thinly veiled type of racism and fear of homosexuals, supposed belief that the government should define relationships.
