Why all the fuss in the media about Obama opting out of the "public" finance system for his campaign?
Really it's semantics at this point. Shouldn't people be saying he's opted out of the federally funded campaign system? The $84 million or so he would receive comes from the government by way of taxpayers elective deferral of $3 on their tax returns.
In my opinion, he's truly using the "public" financing system by directly receiving money from the public and not using money that has filtered from treasury to the FEC.
I think it should be spun it so it sounds like McCain is using taxes to fund his campaign.
